I broke most of my real relationships the same way: drinking, money-hunger, and being too busy to show up. None of it dramatic — just a slow erosion where I was always somewhere else.
Sober, there's nowhere to hide. You can't blame the booze for the distance because the booze is gone and the distance is still there. You have to actually do the boring work: apologise without a speech, show up when you said you would, be dull and reliable for long enough that people trust it.
It's slow and you don't get to rush it to make yourself feel better. Step Three is near the bottom of the climb for a reason — everything above it is easier to fake than this.
